Who we are
VISION
We envision a future where every person can recognize and access the healing and playful power of nature—cultivating resilience, mindfulness, and community connectedness.
MISSION
Rooted in Respite provides nature-based, playful experiences that nurture health and build community. Grounded in the science of social and therapeutic horticulture, we guide people to form personal connections with nature and practice mindful awareness, helping them experience nature’s proven ability to reduce stress, regulate the nervous system, and restore balance to daily life.
About Katie Iarca
Katie Iarca is an international instructional designer, educator, and founder of Rooted in Respite, a nature-based wellness practice rooted in the healing connection between people and plants. For nearly two decades, she has created meaningful learning experiences that inspire growth—whether in classrooms, corporate environments, or plant-filled spaces.
Before launching her nature-focused ventures, Katie spent over ten years designing and delivering global training programs for educators across Asia, South America, and the United States. Her work spanned instructional design, video production, and learning management system development, helping thousands of teachers and learners engage with content in dynamic, accessible ways. Katie completed her Horticultural Therapy Certificate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in May 2025.
Today, Katie brings that same expertise in learning design to the field of therapeutic horticulture. Through Rooted in Respite, she leads restorative, hands-on experiences that blend education, mindfulness, and the proven health benefits of nature. Each workshop and garden session invites participants to slow down, connect, and rediscover balance in everyday life.
